Angela Luq is an innovative composer whose eclectic style bridges classical and contemporary traditions with a diverse array of musical influences. Throughout her career, she has been exploring new sonic landscapes by integrating acoustic instruments with electronic elements, captivating audiences across Europe with her boundary-pushing performances.
Her electric violin concerto, Machina Humana, was written for virtuoso violinist Roberts Balanas and premiered in London, followed by a performance in Latvia. The piece later made its Spanish premiere at the renowned Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, and was also performed at the Cathedral of Mallorca. Her work has been presented at other prestigious venues, including Musikaliska in Stockholm, the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall in London, the Vilnius Philharmonic Hall, and L’Auditori in Barcelona. In 2024, she made her formal debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana with the performance of her orchestral piece Caeli.
Her experience with large-scale projects includes the orchestral arrangements for the Pope's official visits to both Madrid and Barcelona. The Madrid event at Plaza de Lima brought together over one million people, while the broadcasts reached millions more worldwide. For the Barcelona event, she composed an original piece performed live before a packed Montjuïc Stadium of 40,000 people.
Previously, in 2019, she was commissioned by the Royal Academy of Arts in London to compose a piece that was performed multiple times at the museum, including at a private event attended by Queen Camilla. Her artistic practice also frequently extends into multidisciplinary collaboration. In 2020, she premiered her first opera in a medium-length film format at the Tête à Tête Festival, following the pandemic-related cancellation of her stage opera ELENA at London’s Britten Theatre. In 2022, she composed and produced Frames, a piece for cello and electronics commissioned by the Spanish Embassy in London and performed by cellist Laura Peribáñez.
Angela holds a Master’s degree in composition from the Royal College of Music in London, where she was awarded the Study Award for Progress, supported by the Charles Stewart Richardson Fund, in recognition of her exceptional achievements. She also works as a producer and composer with artists from diverse backgrounds, bringing her unique musical language into dialogue with other forms of artistic expression.
